My white Appalachian ancestors ran the ‘Underground Railroad’ through the Cumberland Gap of the Appalachian mountain chain. Over one fourth of the slaves who escaped did so because my ancestors shared what little food they had, clothes, everything they had, they shared. My forefathers led the trail through the wilderness, teaching the slaves how to ‘live off the land, by gathering, foraging and hunting for food.’ If they were caught, they were shot and hanged alongside the people they tried to save. So, my question is this: To whom do I apply for ‘reparations’ for my ancestors and their freedom fighting work? (Crickets)
If slaves built America, why aren’t black people, who were slaves, able to build their own financial future?
