It’s absolutely insane that ANY traffic should be allowed to intersect the path of an aircraft that is on final approach to land, regardless of whether it’s above, below, in front of, or behind that aircraft. That’s just plain unacceptable, and, in this case, deadly.
I served in the military, 7 years total, 4 years in direct action, we used to have this word when transmitting and receiving. “Over!” It prevents cutting off in the middle of vital information like this. You listen to the transmission until you hear, “Over”, which indicates the end of a transmission, to let the other call sign know its time to key in and respond. Pretty simple concept.
Even though the voice recorder didn’t catch it, I still wonder if the female chopper pilot screamed BANZI before she hit the plane.
