LA where the only thing more flaming than our city is our firemen.

Basically she is saying they didn’t allow me to hire more men.

  1. Why doesn’t the fire dept do routine checks on hydrants? Wouldn’t they check hydrants at least once/week or once/month. Why would the fire dept. as she suggests fail to check to see that there is water, even if they aren’t responsible for ensuring a supply of water. Her reluctance to take any responsibility for ascertaining the existence of water and the resilience of the hydrants shows ignorance and incompetency. Yes, you check and if no water, then you report that in a way to all involved so that your report is a matter of public record. Not asking her to go to reservoirs, and the water dept and city manager/mayor should be going to reservoirs because they are supposed to ensure that Los Angeles can fully operate. How do you accept your paycheck yet do nothing?

    • I think we all better wise up and start realizing what can happen to any of us! How do we really know that things are being taken care of by officials in our towns, counties or states for safety. People can become very lax, staying or getting reelected repeatedly in office

    • If you watch the entire interview this was addressed in more detail. Chief Crowley stated the DWP is supposed to inspect hydrants and that the fire department would be able to do their inspections but was considered non-essential in the budget cuts. This clip is not the entire interview where she has the memos layed out of which the most recent is dated December 2024 that addressed the budget cut effects to the dept. She also outlined they are 58 and actually the numbers used for the population ration require well more than 58. They have reduced stations in the past 10 years with a population growth. She did not address but it was addressed by the retired LAFD chief that many veterans were fired in 2020 for not getting vaccinated and many recruits were dismissed. And since then the department has had a decrease in morale. Chief Crowley repeated many times that her main responsibility was to assure that they were able to recruit adequate personnel and acquire equipment along with necessary training. Understand this interview came on day 2 after the fires started. The fire department was under heavy criticism about response time, number of units showing up and of course the water issue.

  2. This interview changed my opinion of the fire chief. Unlike the mayor, governor, and every other appointee, she seems to be much more honest and candid about the idiocy that has caused this disaster.
